Climate Activists Crash Google Moto X Launch Party With Don’t Fund Evil Message

New York, NY – Climate justice activists will be showing up at Google’s exclusive Thursday night launch party for their heavily promoted Moto X phone with a simple message: Google Funds Evil. The activists are part of a campaign, led by Forecast the Facts, calling on Google to immediately stop funding climate change deniers like Senator James Inhofe (R-OK). The campaign launched when it was revealed that Google’s D.C. office would host a $250-$2,500 fundraiser for Inhofe on July 11.

Meanwhile, Forecast the Facts activists will be flooding social media, using the #MeetMotoX and #DontFundEvil hashtags on Twitter, Facebook, and Google+ to spread awareness that Google's new "hero phone" is financing anti-science villains.

Brad Johnson, campaign manager for Forecast the Facts, offered this statement: “Smart phones, stupid politics. Google’s political spending betrays the principles of science-based innovation and progress that went into the Moto X. Google is selling the Moto X with a patriotic ‘designed, engineered, & assembled in US’ message, while at the same time the company is financing politicians who deny the very existence of climate change — the single greatest threat our country faces.”

Over 150,000 people, including Google customers, shareholders, and employees, have joined the campaign criticizing Google’s support for climate-denying politicians and organizations.

In addition to its Inhofe fundraiser, Google was the biggest donor at the recent Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) annual dinner. CEI is famous for their pro-carbon dioxide ad campaign: “They call it pollution, we call it life.”
